With You for The Long Run – Sixth Generation D-MAX Lives On
Proven product with low cost of ownership and running costs
GQEBERHA – Isuzu Motors South Africa (IMSA) has announced that it will be implementing a dual product strategy by retaining a limited number of key models from the current Isuzu D-MAX line-up. The news come as the brand celebrates the introduction of the long awaited seventh generation Isuzu D-MAX in South Africa and export markets within the continent.
Going forward both products will be assembled at Isuzu’s vehicle assembly plant in Gqeberha where it currently produces the 6th Generation D-MAX, the incoming all new 7th Generation D-MAX, and Isuzu trucks.
“Our strategy is to support Isuzu’s objectives by retaining GEN 6 models which have performed very well in the workhorse segment of the market. In addition to boosting our fleet business, we intend to increase LCV exports into key left and right-hand drive markets within the Rest of Africa,” said Dominic Rimmer, Senior Vice President Technical Operations.
The sixth generation D-MAX which is now known as GEN 6, will be offered with five competitively priced models in South Africa, four models in right hand drive export markets, and three models in left hand drive markets.
Buyers of the GEN 6 models will benefit from 10 years of competitive improvement which Isuzu engineers and manufacturing have put into the development of the vehicle during its lifecycle.
“Our customers rely on D-MAX GEN 6’s long-standing reputation of reliability, durability, and capability backed by a vehicle with a 50-year history in this market. The D-MAX is engineered for the best performance in our unique local conditions, and these GEN 6 models remain a valuable proposition for fleet operators who place great importance on running costs and minimum down time,” adds Rimmer.
Proven Drive Trains
GEN 6 continues with two of Isuzu’s current diesel engines, namely the 2.5 litre LEED and 2.5 litre High Output engines.
The 2.5 LEED engine delivers 58 kW at 3900 rpm, and 176 Nm at 1800 rpm. Fuel consumption is 7.9 litres per 100 km with CO2 emissions of 208 g/km.
The high output HO engine offers increased performance with power rated at 100 kW at 3400 rpm, and 320 Nm of torque from 1800 to 2800 rpm. Fuel consumption is 7.6 l/100 km and 199 g/km CO2 emissions for a 5-speed manual, 8.1 l/100 km and 214 g/km for the 5-speed auto.
Isuzu is committed to providing its customers with exceptional ownership peace of mind. Accordingly, all Isuzu D-MAX bakkies come standard with Isuzu Complete Care, comprising a five-year/120 000km bumper-to-bumper warranty and Isuzu Roadside Assistance.
